How To Sign Up For ShareASale & Cautions About Affiliate Marketing

Hi, I'm Takeo Fujii. In this article, I'd like to write about how to register for the overseas affiliate ASP "ShareASale" and what to look out for when Japanese people use it.

I'll write this down as a personal reminder. If you're interested in becoming a ShareASale affiliate, please refer to this page.

This is a rather zipped explanation, as I expect there will be a limited number of readers. If you have any questions, please ask in the comments section.

What is ShareASale?

ShareASale is an ASP (Affiliate Service Provider) that was founded in 2000. It is based in Chicago, Illinois and operates to this day.

It offers a wide variety of products from around the world, and if you are an international affiliate, you will probably want to sign up. Currently, there are over 3,000 companies offering products.

It's a fairly well-established ASP, so the interface is old, and there is some "hmmm" in terms of usability. However, I have been using it since around 2019, despite what they say.

There are some products that you can only affiliate with ShareASale.

...but I'm not actively using it.

How to register for ShareASale

This section explains how to register. It's a little confusing, but you can register as an affiliate of ShareASale at the link below.

You need to register in English. It's easy, though.

• Create username: Choose a username.
• Create password: Choose a password.
• Confirm password: Enter the same password again.
• Your Country: Your country of residence

User names can only contain the characters a-z, A-Z, 0-9, -, _, @, . . characters only. When you have entered all of them, click Step 3.

Promotinal Strategies
Please answer Yes or No to these six questions about what promotional strategies you use to promote your products.

• Do you run pay-per-click search ads?
• Do you use coupons as a promotion method?
• Do you use any browser "add-ons", toolbars, or downloadable apps?
• Do you use an advertising network, an affiliate network (i.e. ASP)?
• Do you have a network of publishers to serve your ads?
• Are you showing ads on sites you don't own?

After entering the information, go to Step 4.

Now, the following are some points to note when using ShareASale.

Next, enter your email address; it will speed up the approval process if you enter an email address from the same domain as the website you entered in Step 2.

You can apply with an email address with the same domain name as your site like this.

Proceed to Step 5.

If you have trouble seeing it, try clicking (tapping) on the image.

You will be asked about your address, but there is no problem in writing your address in general English.

When you have finished filling out the form, click on Step 5. Now all you have to do is set the PAYMENT (how you want to receive payments).

Fill out the USA Tax Certification Form

Then, if you are registered with ShareASale, you will be asked to fill out a USA Tax Certification Form.

This means that in ShareASaleUSA Tax Certification Form must be completed in order to receive compensation.This is the first time I've written about this. I couldn't find any articles written in Japan, so you may be wondering, "How do I fill this out? Some of you may be wondering, "How do I fill this out?

It's okay. I'll explain.

First of all, normally, if you live in the US and have income from affiliate marketing in the US, you need to pay taxes in the US. However, if you are reading this article, you are probably living in Japan.

If you live in Japan and earn money by referring US affiliate projects, it's a different story.
If you fill out a certificate to reduce or exempt your U.S. taxes, you will not be subject to U.S. withholding.

ShareASale also requires both U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens (i.e. us) to submit tax forms to make sure we are paying our taxes properly.

So, in other words.If you're using ShareASale, fill out the USA Tax Certification Form.This is the reason why you are guided to the site.

Anyway, Japanese people should refer to the following.

• Sign Here: Your name
• Print Name: Your name
• Title:Blank is ok

The rest of the form should be automatically filled in for you. Now all you have to do is click on "Submit Form" and you can start cashing in your ShareASale earnings.

When you see "Thank you, your form has been received," you are done.

Summary of how to register for ShareASale

ShareASale allows you to become an affiliate for a large number of products. There is no harm in registering with us, so we recommend that you do so at least once.
